Book review: The Boy With the Cuckoo-clock Heart

The French musician and author Mathias Malzieu has written the story of Jack, who is born with on the coldest day on earth in Victorian Edinburgh.

His life is saved by Madeleine (witch, mid-wife, abortionist) who mends his frozen heart with a cuckoo-clock and becomes his adoptive mother.

At the age of 10, Jack falls in love. His clock starts going crazy and he's told by Madeleine that he must never follow love, cause it will kill him.

But love unexpectedly takes him on the journey of his life.

This book was a breath of fresh air! Malzieu writes a beautiful love story that grabs a hold of you and keeps you curious right up to the end.

As weird as the books setting is, anyone who's ever had a broken heart can relate to the feeling of being scared that you would actually break into pieces.

If you haven't already read it, I highly recommend that you get a hold of it!

It's a quick read and a story that stays with you.

I've always wanted to read Stephen King's Dark Tower series, and now I've finally gotten started!

I read through the first book like a flash.

The character Roland is a fascinating but mysterious man who tries to catch up with "the man in black", and to get to the Dark Tower.

He meets people along the way, but all of them are left behind or worse.

The Gunslinger is a difficult book to review without spoiling it for other readers.

It takes place in different times, we meet creatures of magic, people that are different and little by little we get to know Roland.

The Gunslinger is a perfect mix of western and fantasy. It leaves you wanting more!

And I certainly can't wait for the second book to find its way into my mailbox!

It's 1.37 AM. I'm in bed in a dark bedroom, but my eyes are wide open. I'm tired and yet I'm not..
This happens quite often with me. Sometimes because of my mind having too many creative ideas, other times because I think too much, and then there are nights like this one. Nights where I can't really put my finger on what it is that keeps me awake. I keep waiting in the dark for my eyes to feel heavy and to finally slip into the land of dreams, but it's taking way too long. Some nights I won't sleep at all. Not because I don't want to, but because I just don't get sleepy.
It's a blessing and a curse. I usually get a lot of creative outlet on nights like that, but the day after isn't always a treat.
But I lay here hoping to fall asleep soon.. Can someone pick me up and take me to the land of dreams please? I seem to have lost my way...

A journey in the life of Steve Jobs

It's taken me way to long to finish "Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson", but yesterday I finally got there.

The journey has been long and fascinating. Steve Jobs is by far the most fascinating geek I've read about! To learn how Apple started up and went through highs and lows before it ended up as the success it is today is worth taken the time to read about. It's an inspiring story, and while I was on this journey (that isn't always pretty) my respect for Steve Jobs grew.

What he accomplished in his career is nothing short but amazing. He wasn't the easiest of men to work with (or to live with for that matter) but his goals for life and his company was the right ones.

He didn't focus on profit, but on amazing products!

And those amazing products keeps finding their ways into new homes every day.

Although I'm not particularly fond of reading biographies, this one is one that I will recommend to Apple loving friends!

His legacy will go on, and Apple as a company and what they've achieved will go down in history.

Thank you Walter Isaacson for making a very honest biography about this man. No sugar coating, just honest and true.

I got back from my mini-vacation yesterday, and I already miss London! The air, the people, the atmosphere! I can't really put my finger on it, but there's something about London that makes me feel at home!

I'm not planing on shopping a lot in London, but there are a couple of absolute must haves!
The first thing is something that I've been wanting for a while now, and I haven't found it here in Norway.
It's the Polaroid Instant 300 Camera! Such a fun way to capture the moment!!
And the other is something that I fell in love with the last time I went to London. It's the Bella Pierre Mineral Foundation. I bought the compact powder last time, and now I'm almost out of it, so I thought I would try the loose powder this time around. It's one of the few mineral foundations that I've found to cover really really well and not make my oily skin break out!! Highly recommend it for combination to oily skin!!

Two great things! First, my boyfriend comes home from work today!! ^_^ I've missed him so much!
Second, tomorrow I'm leaving for Oslo and then early Thursday morning:

I had this plan about being extremely creative tonight... I was going to find my sewing machine and start to modify a lot of the clothes in my closet, but my evening didn't go as planed.

I watched a movie with Leander and got way too sleepy-comfy under the blanket.

Later I sat down by the computer to answer a few mails, and I ended up being booked for two upcoming shoots, talking creative ideas with a girlfriend and writing a bit.

And now I feel like dead meat.

I've been so tired the last couple of days.. Hmmmm.. I should probably eat more vitamins and fruit. And maybe I should consider slowing down my pace a little. I've always got too many projects going on at the same time :P

So now I'm just going to hang some clothes up for drying and then I'm going to go upstairs and become tuck myself in for the night :)

I love fashion and one thing in particular; shoes!

I'm a sucker for a pair of gorgeous heels!

And while I was browsing the web for some creative ideas to transform old shoes that I have into something new I stumbled upon some rather weird heels.

These Jeffrey Campbell, Rock Away shoes fascinated me! I couldn't decide if I thought it was awesome or just ugly, and I'm still having a hard time deciding on that :P

Then I got to thinking about being creative and starting new trends, and (curious soul as I am) I started googling "funny heels","different heels", "strange heels" etc. just to see what kind of ideas that are out there.

These are just a few of the shoes I found! And I'd have to say that yes, sometimes people get a bit carried away creatively! Hahaha!

But hey! I love that designers are trying to reinvent the high heels, but I'm afraid to say that most of the shoes I found while browsing I wouldn't be caught dead in :P

But do you wanna know a secret??

I'm putting the Jeffrey Campbells on my wishlist, just because they're so different! So crazy different in a weird, good, I-would-love-to-try-that-out kind of way :P

Justified - I'm hooked!!

I've always liked cowboys and action series. And when I stumbled upon Justified on our Apple tv I fell in love with it!
Love the storyline, and the character Raylan Givens is amazing.
And now I'm officially hooked! Way into the first season and struggling to get to bed because I just have to see ONE more episode. And then just ONE more..
And I can't really explain it but I guess I'm weak for that Kentucky accent! Haha! And it doesn't hurt to look at a tall, dark and handsome cowboy :)

I have a feeling that 2012 will be filled with challenges, for good and bad.. Mostly good I hope!

And so far, so good! There's a new competition going on at work. I won the last time, and I intend to do just as great this time around! Competitive you say? Oh yes!

My boss also challenged me to try the Huawei U9000 Nero and sell those we have in the store after getting to know it a little more. So this weekend I'm going to really get to know a Huawei for the first time.

But hey! Wait! There's more!

I'm working freelance as a writer this weekend as well by helping out a photographer I know to write on his website.

And I've been answering mails to several photographers that wants to do shoots in near future today! So this year has sort of started like a rocket!

Maybe 2012 has a lot more in store for me than what I expected in the first place??

We're already into the fourth day of 2012 and I'm not having the same "this is going to be an amazing year"-feeling that I had in the start of 2011, but I still have a lot of plans and hopes for this year!

I'm going to work hard at getting my book done, a lot of interesting things are going to happen with Something Else and there are going to be a lot of creative photo shoots!

Oh and last but not least, I'm going to be dedicated blogger!

You'll be seeing a lot more DYI stuff, make up tutorials and a lot of writing of course :)

Date night!

There's been so much stress and so little free time lately, but tonight Tor and I took the time to go on a date:)
We saw Sherlock Holmes, The Game of Shadows! Loved it by the way!
And what I loved even more was the two seat couches at the cinema we go to! It was so nice to actually be able to sit together while watching the movie:)
And when we got home we made some yoghurt ice cream and had a relaxing evening at home! I love days like this!

But the truth is that sometimes life can bring you shitty news and it's hard to swallow. Hard to understand. Right now I'm at a point where I feel kind of out of my body and really scared, but I'm hoping that everything will turn out great in the end.
Positivity, please bring your friends and come stay over for a while!

This Thursday started with me NOT waking up as early as planed! I slept in big time! Stressed my way into the shower and got myself ready for work and hurried to get there. Got there just in time but suddenly realized that I had no signal on my cellphone and tried every trick in the book to get it back, but no luck:/
Good thing I work at Euronics and have the possibility to make new sim cards on the spot! When that was done I was up and in contact with the world again:P
We had customers in the store 20 minutes after closing time!! So I was pretty stressed when I got home! Had to get ready for a photo shoot and Tor helped me by packing Leander's things since he was going to his fathers.
Rushed off to get the bus and managed to forget Leander's backpack of course.. But my dear boyfriend drove after us so that we got it with us after all:) best boyfriend in the whole world!
Leander slept on my shoulder on the bus so I had a little time to catch my breath and calm my nerves..
Met with his father and said goodbye to them before I rushed off to a photo shoot that lasted over 3 hours:) So much fun! It's always a bit scary to work with a photographer that you haven't worked with before. There has to be some kind of chemistry there for the shoot to go easily and the pictures to turn out great. But I had nothing to worry about this time! He was awesome to work with and we got some great shots! Can't wait to show you all!
Now I'm resting my feet on the bus and I can't wait to get home :)
No doubt it has been a stressful day, but it has also been a very good and productive day :)

Another year has come and gone..

2011 has come and gone like a whirlwind! Sometimes I feel like haven't even gotten the time to experience 2011, but when I sit down and look back it all gets so much brighter! It has been a good year after all, and I had a feeling it would be when the year was at its very start.

I went from one job, to two and then three! But I had to let one of them go to start to function as a normal human being :P

And when I was down to two jobs, the one at Euronics grew into more and more work hours, and by the time autumn was at the door I was down to only one full time job :)

A relief really, even though I learned a lot from all of the work places I've been to.

Worked as a make up artist for a studio in Drammen.

And in a jewelry store.

And of course Euronics ^_^ I love that job!!

I've had time to grow as a make up artist and as a model! Had my first collaboration with an international photographer this spring!

The fantastic Isidoro Perelgrino or DutchNudeArt as some know him :)

I also worked with a couple of other photographers and had a blast! One that I really enjoyed was shooting for one of my favorite clothing stores; Manillusion! There's more pictures to come in 2012!

I saw Bon Jovi live! Awesome!!

Went to the concert with two Euronics colleagues!

Girls trip to London!!

Something we've talked about for what seems like forever, and now we finally did it!

London<3 Feels like my second home from home :P

We went on a family vacation to Turkey!

It was so nice to just get away, the three of us! Sunny and warm! I kind of miss it, even though I really like the winter.

And Leander is such an easy kid to travel with! Almost always a smile on his face, and patient as few!

And now that I've started mentioning things that's happened in 2011 it feels like I could go on and on and on and on..

But just relax! I'm going to stop now. Haha!

But I'm going to end this memory-lane blog post by saying that I have big expectations for 2012. Our company Something Else has a bright future ahead! London! Work! Shoots! And I'm going to finish my book!

Can't wait for it to start ^_^

Operation Decoration!

We've been talking about redicorating our house for a while, but now we've finally given our selves the kick in the butt that we needed! We bought two new couches today! One for our tv room and one for the living room:) I can't wait to get started. Unfortunately they're not ready for pick up before early in March:/ but then again, that should give me enough time to paint both rooms and find some new curtains^_^

I finally found time to finish up my personalized coffee cup that I bought from Starbucks in London this summer. I decorated it with pictures that London trip! Me and the girls had so much fun when we went, and I can't wait for the next girls trip to take place!

Tor and I got the board game Scrabble that we wanted! What can I say? Wordfeud has gotten us hooked on the game :P
And my brother in-law and his wife gave me the amazing Pan Am purse that I love love love!!
I also got a Logitech keyboard and case for my iPad! So practical!
And the most amazing gift of all was a hand print from my son with a lovely poem next to it!

13th of December is the day of St. Lucia and Leander's kindergarden invited all the parents on cake and Gløgg (hot Christmas beverage).

It was so nice to see them all sing for us!

Work is really hectic now a days and I absolutely love that there's a lot of action in the store. Today however it was soooo quiet. No wonder! There was raining like hell and blowing like crazy, so I can understand that people stayed inside. I would have done the same if I could :P

But the thing is, I get so unbelievably tired on slow days at work. There's always something to be done for sure.. But it just gets a little boring when there's few customers. And especially since we had a really busy day yesterday! I loved every minute of it!

The only thing I don't like about these hectic times is that hardly get to spend any time at all with Leander. We get a little time in the morning and about an hour and a half when I get home before it's bed time. I miss spending more time with him! And I can't wait for Christmas Eve to finally get here so we can have that time together :)

Working on a Sunday!

Sundays is the only day of the week that my work is closed, but now that we're closing in on Christmas we're keeping open this Sunday and the next.

It felt so wrong going to work today, and it was so quiet in the store that it wasn't really necessary to keep it open. But hey! I'm not the boss, so it's not up to me :P

Anyhow, I still love my job, even on a Sunday!

But it warmed my heart to be able to wear another piece of Something Else jewelry to work today!!

SteamCream - FeatherBrush recommends!

When I was in London in July, I was especially looking for new and exciting beauty products that I can't get here in Norway.

One that I had to try was the SteamCream!

It's an all over cream that fits every skin type. It's full of natural ingredients like almond oil, cocoa butter, lavender oil++ It smells great and the steam that they've added into the cream makes it really soft and glossy. It also makes the cream absorb really fast!

They come in packages that are made for travel! You can bring it in your hand luggage on the plane, and the container most definitely will survive even the bumpiest of rides :)

They also come in different designs. I fell in love with this one:

It's not that pricey either! I paid 10 GBP for mine at House of Fraser!

It's a good product and I love lotions that can be used all over, by any skin type at any age :)

My hair was way overdue and more than ready for a trip to the hairdresser!! I wanted a subtle change so they put in a highlight on one side. I soooooo love it! I'll post some better pictures of it soon;)

As some of you know, I work at Euronics. So this time I decided to do a nail design inspired by the yellow in the company logo and the blue color on my Euronics shirt:)

So I did this easy and colorful design:

I'm always on the look out for products that will simply blow me away! I've had my eye on Urban Decay for a while now, but I haven't gone all in on trying it because everything has to be ordered from the UK.

But when me and my girlfriends went to London in July I went to House of Fraser and got to look at a lot of the products and a lot of what I bought has ended up as my favorite make up products :)

And here are some of them:

24/7 Glide-on eye pencil (zero) : It holds for a really long time and it's so easy to apply. I always use this when I'm making any smokey eye look :)

Liquid Liner (perversion) : The perfect liquid liner that holds all day! I always use this when I'm doing my pin up look!

Lip Junkie (Red Light) : A minty flavored, really well pigmented lip gloss with a lot of shine without being overly sticky :)

And of course, the NAKED palette! It's on everyone's lip... eeehhmm.. Eyes :P

I think I already knew that I would fall in love with this palette before I had it in my hands. After reading all the amazing reviews and looking at other make up artists tutorial using this palette, my expectations where sky high! And I was so thrilled to find out that it met all of them! I love this palette, and I use it almost every day! The eye shadow primer that comes with the palette is also amazing!

So there you go! My confession to a growing Urban Decay obsession!

I've been waiting for what seems like forever for the Urban Decay "NAKED" palette, and everytime BeautyBay had it in stock I didn't have the money, and when I got the money they were sold out :P

You can imagine my surprise when I saw that Ryanair was selling them on the plane on our way to London!! There was no way I was going to let it slip by me this time, so I got the hold of the first flight attendant that passed by and asked for it (while probably looking like a four year old on Chrismas day) :P

So I am now a proud owner of the NAKED palette!! FINALLY!! And it truly is amazing! I'll be doing a look with it tomorrow for you all to see :)

Gotta love it!!

I'll also be doing a Christina's favorites video soon, so stay tuned!!

I've been using false lashes from Make Up Store for some time now and I do love them, but now I've found lashes that competes with my long time favourites!
The Ardell Babies:)
Most lashes I buy are too long for my eyes, so I have to cut them to fit my eyes, but these are small, subtle and perfect for making your eyes pop when you're working a simple look like a pinup look:)

I've been testing the id Bare Minerals Starter Kit for about a week now, and I'm absolutely in love with the products!

The fact that it's all natural and good for the skin, is a huge plus!!

It keeps my skin fresh and it really doesn't feel like I'm wearing make up:)

Have I got exciting news to share?? Oh yes I do!!!

I went to a meeting today in Drammen, and it went extremely well! I'm now a freelance makeup artist for Model Day Studio!

I'm so excited about this, and I can't wait to get started!

All this time I was looking for jobs and I just kept on feeding my makeup addiction and practicing like crazy on other people (for shoots and events) and my self, and now my dreams are coming true!

It feels kind of surreal actually.. I've been working with makeup for a little while now, but I never imagined I'd be writing a contract with a studio this soon.

After the meeting was over and I walked to the train, I couldn't stop smiling! People who passed me probably thought I was crazy..Haha! And in a way I am! I'm crazy happy right now!

2011 has given me so much already and I can't wait to see what's in store for the rest of the year!

CRAZY HAPPY!! HAHAHA!

This really does prove that dreams can come true! You just have to hold that dream close to your heart and take a leap of faith! Work hard to get where you want to be, and someday you'll get there!

I feel so blessed and incredibly happy right now! And i want to shout a big fat
